Apple Computers cost a premium for a variety of reasons, but if you’re looking to sell one, that can be a plus!
You can sell your Apple Computer devices at:
- Gazelle.com — receive cash (my refer-a-friend link)
- Apple Recycling program — receive an Apple Store gift card if your device isn’t worthless (buy-back valuation and program management by PowerON)
- Craigslist — Tulsa, Oklahoma Apple Computers for sale
All 3 options don’t cost you anything for shipping, which is why I didn’t include eBay in the list.
In my experience, a 1 year old device has lost about 50% of its value, with better computers keeping a higher percentage of their original purchase price.
You get additional value for having all the Apple accessories that came with it (e.g. power cord, Apple Mouse, Apple Keyboard), and even the original box/packaging is worth something.
If you sell back an Apple device with remaining Apple Care time on it, you can inform Apple of the new owner and transfer coverage, or you can request a pro-rated refund.
If your online or over-the-phone or Craigslist valuations don’t provide you with a satisfactory buy-back amount, you could always give it away to a family member or friend or donate it to charity for a possible tax deduction.
If you’re looking to buy a used Apple Computer, you can search Craigslist, eBay, or even consider purchasing from the Apple Outlet (refurbished and clearance Apple products).
If you’ve sold your Apple Computer, make sure to remove your personal information from it. Apple has a help article: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
