  • Leading and trailing spaces are ignored.
  • HTML formatting/styling is ignored, meaning an italicized word does not count as more characters than a non-italicized one.
  • Emoji count as 1 word and 1 character.

Line breaks count as a character. Spaces at the start and end are trimmed, not included in the character count.
